The true story of The Angeli Symphony

GIFTED COOK TO COMPOSER Stuart J Sharp 9781521190494 Books

I'm a writer and an editor. To respond to another reviewer, yes, there are some punctuation issues. But I am willing to forgive some of the technical issues of this book in order to read this extraordinary story of Stuart Sharp. From another Amazon page:

"Stuart, a one-time homeless, penniless non-musician had a vision of becoming a world class composer, author and film maker whose friends included Presidents and Pop Stars. Such foresights also drew him to Africa where he imagined a great concert. He saw himself organising and composing the music for the giant event in the jungle. He dreamt of great orchestras recording the music whirring around in his head. These were compelling images and he saw himself writing a best-selling book about it. Just as clear was a film he would make that would one day be produced and shown around the world. The catalyst to propel him on this impossible odyssey was the tragic death of his son. Making the decision to set out on the adventure was a desperate one. Following the divorce he lost everything and for a time lived rough in his car and later in Shepherds Bush, London.Eventually he moved into a hostel for the homeless and later became its night manager. In the following decades he rose from the ashes and the Philharmonia Orchestra of London's ovation following their recording of his Angeli Symphony was a singular moment in time. He eventually travelled to the Dark Continent and against all odds organised and composed the music for one of Africa's most successful concerts just as his dream foretold. The publication of his book The Angels is a giant leap forward towards completing his trilogy of dreams."

After reading about Stuart's enthralling journey, you will not look at life the same way again.

This is an amazing story of a dream pursued and realized after tremendous struggle and perseverance. The author has been amazingly generous in his response and support of a project with jail inmates here in Chicago IL. His story should be read and spread among those suffering and struggling the most. Thank you Stuart for your wonderful gift and generous spirit.
I received "The Snow People" as a gift from a friend.

First, I have to say this book starts out very slowly. There's no "hook" early on to hold interest, but I did read through it over the course of a couple weeks. It starts out with the weather, something that is too mundane to grab attention.

It does get somewhat better, and that's a big somewhat. This isn't a book for anyone who prefers a fast-paced book. It's also one that you can skip some passages and not miss a beat.

Sadly, this book really needs an edit. There are so many misplaced commas and misuse of punctuation that becomes very distracting and disruptive. It's very disappointing to read and not comprehend a sentence because the commas are improperly placed or a semi-colon is used where there should be a comma, making the sentences choppy. Unfortunately, it's not one or two instances, the entire book is filled with grammatical and punctuation errors.

There is also British English in the book, e.g. use of British towards vs. American spelling toward.

I read the entire book only because it was a gift, and I knew my friend would ask me questions about it. Maybe edited and cleaned up it would be a better read. It's really hard to judge a book when there are so many mistakes.

I can't recommend this book, but for those not bothered by a book marred with errors, it might be suitable.
A journey of immense propotions. Thought provoking and immensely encouraging and inspiring.
I'm not erudite enough to offer an intellectual review of a book. But, simply put, this one has captured me. Is it a potential classic? Probably not. It is the autobiography of a remarkable man, readable, inspiring, and somewhat mysterious(Snow people) that sheds light on the life of the lower class in mid 20th century England, and chronicles Sharp's rise to fame. The writing style is unpretentious, no soaring prose, but at the same time, a page turner. Could be turned into a great movie for discerning adults, but that rarely happens, does it?
